Find the Railroad Fallout 4: Where to Locate the Secret Faction
10 September 2026 | 191
Unlocking the shrouded headquarters of the Railroad is one of the most memorable milestones in Fallout 4. Operating covertly to liberate synthetic humanoids from Institute control, this secretive group avoids public detection by hiding deep beneath historic ruins. Players looking to ally with them or simply progress their main storyline must decipher clue markers left across the ruins of Boston.
Starting the Quest Line to Locate the Faction
Your search begins officially by obtaining the Road to Freedom quest, which triggers through various rumors heard around Diamond City or Goodneighbor. Overhearing town residents discussing a local movement or speaking with specific NPCs near Boston Common will initiate your search. Once the mission starts, you will be directed toward the historic city center to locate the starting marker of the Freedom Trail.
Following the Freedom Trail Markers
The path requires following a physical red line embedded along the streets and sidewalks of urban Boston. Along this trail, players encounter historic landmarks, each featuring a red plaque with a letter and a number. These clues collectively form the password needed to gain entry into the secret hideout once you reach the final location.
Infiltrating the Old North Church
The red trail eventually guides players directly to the entrance of the Old North Church. Inside the crumbling interior, navigate past hostile feral ghouls and head straight toward the catacombs in the basement level. At the end of the dark brick corridors, you will discover an interactive Freedom Trail Ring embedded into the wall.
Solving the Ring Code Puzzle
To open the hidden entrance, interact with the dial mechanism to spell out the word RAILROAD. Rotate the outer ring to select each individual letter and press the inner button to register each character. Once entered correctly, the heavy brick wall swings open, leading directly into the Railroad headquarters where Desdemona and her allies await.
